Don’t Miss out Your Special Childhood!

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.” [17:23-24]

Among us are those who have never had a chance to experience a joyful childhood. And then there are those who had an opportunity to experience those wonderful years of life but then they still crave to re-live those moments again.

Whether we had it or not, we shall long for it. For in it (i.e. the childhood) there’s a strange kind of charisma where even the simplest of the things can bring joy to one’s life.

Isn’t it interesting that the old age is often referred as the second childhood (based upon the similarities existing between an old person and a child).

Now, what is even more interesting is the Mercy of Allah i.e. where He has decreed upon us to be merciful to our parents then at the very same time He has blessed us with a chance to re-live our childhood. A time where we can relish the childhood laughter, play around the childhood games, rejoice the simple comforts of life and much more!

It’s like when the second childhood of our parents comes into existence then with it comes along our long awaited cherished days i.e. our childhood. As if we’re back on the swing and they are standing behind us, pushing the swing…

While it is true that the old age brings back the second childhood of the elderly people then it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that it also springs forth the second childhood of the youth.

Death – The Filter

Our lives are in a way like water, which when flows through various sorts of paths tends to absorb different kinds of substances. And it would continue on to do so until a filter would cross its path where the impurities shall be held back and the clean water shall flow through it.

And such is death, through which the petty issues of life are filtered. All those matters in our lives we thought were of great importance turned out to be so insignificant once they had passed through the filter of death.

Even the thought of death filtering out our lives is enough to estimate the worth of the matters we hold on to or the ones we are heedless of…

And death is in a way the Mercy of Allah as Hasan Basri (rahimullah) once said: “If it were not for three, son of Adam would not have lowered his head: death, illness and poverty.”

Hence, let death be your slogan as Silah bin Ashyam (rahimullah) once said: “Let death be your slogan, for this way, you will not care if you reached the morning while wealthy or having difficulty in this life.”

Ad-Daqqaq said:
“He who often remembers death will be endowed with three qualities: repenting soon afterwards, having contented heart and being active in performing acts of worship.
He who forgets death will earn, as way of recompense, three characteristics: delaying repentance, discontent with sufficient provisions and being lazy performing the acts of worship.”

" Indeed My Verses used to be recited to you ..." [23:66]

60. and those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning).

61. it is These who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost In them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salât (prayers) In their (early) stated, fixed times and so on].

62. and we tax not any person except according to his capacity, and with us is a record which speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged.

63. Nay, but their hearts are covered (blind) from understanding This (the Qur'ân), and they have other (evil) deeds, besides, which they are doing.

64. until, when we grasp those of them who lead a luxurious life with Punishment, behold! they make humble invocation with a loud voice.

65. invoke not loudly This day! Certainly, You shall not be helped by us.

66. indeed My Verses used to be recited to you, but You used to turn back on Your heels (denying them, and with Hatred to listen to them).

67. In pride (They Quraish pagans and polytheists of Makkah used to feel proud that they are the dwellers of Makkah sanctuary Haram), talking evil about it (the Qur'ân) by night.

68. have they not pondered over the word (of Allâh, i.e. what is sent down to the Prophet ), or has there come to them what had not come to their fathers of old?

69. or is it that they did not recognize their Messenger (Muhammad) so they deny him?

70. or Say they: "There is madness In him?" Nay, but He brought them the Truth [i.e. "(A) Tauhîd: worshipping Allâh alone In All aspects (B) the Qur'ân (C) the Religion of Islâm,"] but Most of them (the disbelievers) are averse to the truth.

71. and if the Truth had been In accordance with their desires, Verily, the heavens and the earth, and Whosoever is therein would have been corrupted! Nay, we have brought them their reminder, but they turn away from their reminder.

72. or is it that You (O Muhammad ) ask them for some wages? but the Recompense of Your Lord is better, and He is the best of those who give sustenance.

73. and Certainly, You (O Muhammad ) call them to a Straight Path (true Religion Islâmic Monotheism).

74. and Verily, those who believe not In the Hereafter are indeed deviating far astray from the Path (true Religion Islâmic Monotheism).

75. and though we had Mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, still they would obstinately persist In their transgression, wandering blindly.

76. and indeed we seized them with Punishment, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke (Allâh) with submission to Him.
